Adopting IoT boosts customer satisfaction, increases revenue, and reduces costs.

The implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies enhances both the efficiency and effectiveness of production processes, benefiting the entire industrial ecosystem.
In most cases, enterprise innovation today is closely tied to IoT platforms.
However, despite its promise, many IoT projects fail or are eventually shelved. Structural and cultural barriers—such as the lack of internal expertise or dedicated teams—often prove fatal to adoption. “These gaps, however, can be easily bridged with the right technology services and expert consulting from a partner like Uniquon,” states Riz Zigliani, CEO of Uniquon.
Uniquon’s mission is to support companies in their digital transformation journeys—optimising operations while placing customer satisfaction at the heart of business strategy.
The Benefits of the Internet of Things
According to the SCM World Smart Manufacturing & the Internet of Things survey, which involved 418 manufacturing companies, IoT investment typically focuses on four main areas: data analytics, connectivity, automation, and mobility.
The deployment of IoT systems has yielded three core benefits:
Real-time monitoring, enabling immediate issue resolution with zero latency;
Predictive analytics, powered by production archives and historical data through machine learning and artificial intelligence;
Data-driven supply chain management, to significantly enhance overall business efficiency.
The current landscape in Italy
Adopting a product-as-a-service model can unlock significant efficiencies across the industrial sector. Currently, 77% of revenue for EU manufacturing companies is generated from first-time product sales. This reveals a lack of ongoing value creation strategies, as there is little follow-up post-sale and few additional services offered to extend the product lifecycle.
IoT technologies offer the ability to transform this model—enabling businesses to incorporate after-sale services and thereby increase recurring revenue streams.

A recent study of 83 European manufacturing companies found that 58% had initiated IoT-based projects between 2024 and 2025. Among these, 30% are in the preliminary analysis stage, 28% are running pilot projects, and 42% are already in active deployment.For 75% of these companies, the primary motivation for adopting IoT was improved efficiency, while 58% cited enhanced operational effectiveness.
