How a European AgriTech Consortium Reinvented Its Digital Infrastructure for a New Era of Data-Driven Farming

A major non-profit consortium focused on smart agriculture set out to develop its digital platform that enables seamless data sharing between farming machinery and agricultural software. With Uniquon's help, the organisation launched a new generation of its cloud-native solution—enhancing interoperability, simplifying access, and accelerating adoption across Europe.
The Challenge: Unlocking agricultural data without locking out farmers
Context
Digital data is rapidly transforming the agricultural sector. From precision soil management and crop monitoring to regulatory compliance and sustainability tracking, farmers increasingly rely on connected machinery and software ecosystems to stay competitive.
However, for many, managing the flow of data between machines, field apps, and compliance tools remains complex and fragmented. The non-profit organisation behind one of Europe’s largest agri-data platforms recognised the need to modernise its infrastructure to ensure reliability, accessibility, and scalability—without disrupting the workflows of over 5,000 farmers already on board.
That’s where Uniquon came in.
The Solution: A future-proof architecture with a seamless user experience
Working closely with the client’s development and field operations teams, Uniquon delivered a full-stack redesign of the platform’s backend and user interface. Key goals included reducing friction for end-users, improving system resilience, and enabling integration with a growing number of agricultural machinery vendors and software providers.
The new version includes:
A simplified onboarding experience with intuitive UI and API-guided connections
A planned single sign-on experience for farmers via federated identity
Remote device access capabilities under evaluation through OEM and third-party agritech portals
Support for plug-and-play connectivity with industry-compliant telemetry units and control systems
On the backend, Uniquon implemented a modern microservices-based architecture using Kubernetes on AWS, with HiveMQ for MQTT-based machine communication and Kafka for internal messaging — ensuring data is never permanently stored and remains protected by industry-leading security protocols.
The Impact: An accessible, scalable platform for Europe’s next-generation farming
Thanks to Uniquon’s contribution, the renewed platform is already yielding strong adoption results. Farmers benefit from:
Faster setup and zero reconfiguration of their existing machines
Enhanced reliability in field data exchange
Streamlined access across multiple devices and vendors
A more transparent and compliant data pipeline
Today, the platform sees around 150 new users join each month — proof that with the right technology partner, digital transformation in agriculture can be both technically robust and farmer-friendly.
